Frequently Asked Questions

By a first-time attendee of the 2009 conference.

Do I have to be a theology student to attend?

Certainly not. The sessions are directed towards a general post-secondary audience, though some of our past attendees have been students of theology. Regardless of your level, you’ll certainly be able to get something out of this, especially because the conference encourages a high degree of interaction with your peers.

Why on earth do you hold these things out in the middle of nowhere? Am I going to be sleeping in some mouldy basement?

Churches in a small-town or rural setting usually provide a more relaxed atmosphere than an inner-city church, and often have more room to spare. All of the churches where the Cranmer Conference is held have excellent facilities. If transportation is an issue, let us know, and we’ll probably be able to arrange something.

What sorts of people come to this thing? Are you people evangelicals, Anglo-Catholics, broad-church, or what?

All of the above. Every year, attendees come from a variety of traditions. Worship sessions are conducted in a variety of styles, but all use the Book of Common Prayer. It’s actually quite fascinating to see how we can be united as Christians in this, regardless of our individual preferences.

Is this a cult? Am I going to be pressed into some sort of crazy society? Do I have to be Anglican to come?

Definitely not. Although the Conference is distinctively Anglican, most of the material is applicable to Christianity in general. You’re welcome to attend regardless of your affiliation. The purpose of this event is not proselytizing, but it is designed to be educational.

I’m quite interested in this, but I’m not even sure where my meals will be coming from a month from now. Can you give me a hand here?

Absolutely. Just let us know, and we’ll discreetly arrange something.
